ENERGIeTECH goes Climate Score
Press release
For better readability, the text is gender-free, but addresses all social dimensions.
About 5 years ago, 7 enthusiasts and visionaries met in Berlin at the idyllic Lietzensee to initiate a change in the world that could not be more urgent: “Climate protection through energy efficiency”.
Its goal was to provide decision-makers in companies and municipalities with information and tools that simplify the discussion of this complex matter and thus enable them to implement climate protection activities more quickly and efficiently.
As “Deutsches Institut für Energietechnik e.V.” we started with the consideration of 9 categories from the fields of energy efficiency and energy self-sufficiency, from lighting to photovoltaics to energy audits.
Together with an external provider, scorecard-based potential analyses were developed to make investment costs easy to calculate and to reliably forecast savings.
For the first two years, our area of operation was limited to Germany, but more and more often we received inquiries from companies operating throughout Europe. Internationalization was now the order of the day, so the name was changed to “Europäisches Institut für Energietechnik e.V.”. Our website became multilingual and we expanded our market and legal knowledge, at the same time gradually expanding the energy categories.
In the year before last we increased to 18 categories, meanwhile our service portfolio comprises 48 (!) categories and ranges from A like tenders to U like sales taxes. With this multitude of possibilities to save energy and energy costs, we as a non-profit association are clearly front runners! In addition to technical aspects, we now increasingly provide information on commercial, legal and tax aspects.
All categories are linked in the potential analysis, which has matured over 10 years. As a result, an initial indication of potential savings is displayed. It was and is important to us to make this first step as easy as possible, which is why the potential analysis is still free of charge for all companies. It requires no entry of sensitive or personal information and can be completed in 10-15 minutes.
In addition, the association offers a detailed forecast of all relevant energy efficiency potentials for a small flat fee.
The steady expansion to include topics beyond energy technology necessitated another name change at the end of last year: “Climate Score e.V.”
Climate Score is not only the name, but also the program. As a non-profit organization, we have developed “Climate Score”, a completely new CO2 verification system. In addition to the 3 emission categories (scopes) according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, this certificate also shows the degree of compensation. In this way, all successful activities (avoidance, reduction and compensation of energy consumption) can be compared and provide information on how “green” a company really is.
Also new are the 10+ Quick Checks on our website, www.climate-score.org. These interactive calculators deal with company-relevant topics such as CO2 tax, CO2 subsidies or even the concession fee. According to feedback from our users, our checks are better and more intuitive than the tools on other websites. The thematic expansion of the Quick Checks is ongoing.
The focus in 2022 is now on the internationalization of our offering. For this step we are looking for expertise and resources – be it in the form of supporters, members and especially partners!
We from “Climate Score e.V.” are looking forward to further enthusiasts, visionaries and fellow campaigners at boldt@climate-score.org.
